Another sound guy night at Two Rivers, this time for the folk group Wild Ginger. With now having some experience on that board, the gig went smoothly and I have no stupid errors to report! I feel like my confidence was appreciated by the act and they could just focus on making music and giving the venue a good time.
Wild Ginger is a 6-piece group playing covers centered on a folk style. 4 vocalists and ever present acoustic rhythm guitars establish the foundation of their sound. A drum set, keys, and electric guitar step the energy up and establish a very Dead feel, which is appropriate and appreciated at this venue. The crowd responded well to the familiar sounds and the dance floor would fill up during the peaks of dance music energy.

The venue had upgraded the stage lighting. This was my first night there with a light board to use. I regret that I actually forgot it was there for much of the set. I had fiddled with the controls during set up but once the music started it just left my mind. Later in the night the sound board surprised me as it was sitting there next to me being unused. “Oh, right!” Transitioning the colors on the stage is fun! I sense that the audience and performers responded to it too, albeit unconsciously. I look forward to experimenting with this new control.
The venue will continue to upgrade too. One of the performers was actually a salesperson for audio gear and I overheard them talking with the owner about upgrades. I have not worked with a digital mixer before but there’s a prospect for it!
Wild Ginger expressed appreciation for being hosted and their intent to return someday. I met some friendly people and had a memorable Friday night. I think we all look forward to returning to the stage for another show.
